Funeral Planning

When a family member passes away, the church will be notified by the funeral home or by the family. The church recommends the family to meet with the funeral home first to go over the schedule for the visitation and the Mass. The funeral home will contact the church to confirm the dates and times. When the meeting with the funeral home is complete, the next part will be meeting with Kasey Sekula at the Parish Office to plan the Mass.

  • What is the difference between a Prayer Service and a Mass?

A Prayer Service is a 30 minute service with scripture and prayers.  A Mass is a 1 hour Mass with readings, songs, and communion, like a normal Mass.

  • Can we do an eulogy?

Yes. We recommend it to be before the Mass begins and up to 5 minutes.

  • Can we add anything to the Mass?

Yes. Kasey will have to confirm with the priest if it is okay with any additions.

  • Do we need to bring anything when we plan the Mass?

No, but you can bring something to write things down if you would like.

  • Can we have the visitation at the Church?

The church recommends the furneral home, but yes you can have it at the Church. We have the Pope John 23rd Room, Parish Life Center, and the Church to choose from (depends on scheduling).

  • What is the recommended time for a Mass?

    11 am

  • Can we do a luncheon?

Yes. When you are meeting with Kasey, you will choose what to have for the meal.

Please be prepared to answer a hard question when you discuss the luncheon: How many people are thinking to have at the luncheon?

  • Does the Church have a cemetery?

Yes we do. The cemetery is located on 15135 State Route 2  in Wauseon.

  • Can I preplan my funeral?

    Yes

  • Can family members be part of the Mass?

Yes. They can be readers or if you have an Eucharist Minister in the family.
